Flagstone and paver patios for LA backyards
A patio off the back door or under the old tree, in place of the patchy lawn or the cracked slab. We place it where the shade falls when you would sit out.
Book online and we'll call you back the same business day.

A patio gets used when it sits in the right spot. Too far from the kitchen and it stays empty. In full sun at four o'clock, nobody goes out until dark. So we start with where you would sit, then size the patio and plan the beds around it.
Where a patio fits on an LA lot
- Off the back door. The usual place, a step down from the house, sized for how many of you eat outside.
- Under an old tree. Flagstone set in decomposed granite leaves open joints, so water still reaches the roots of a sycamore or an avocado.
- In the side yard. A small paved corner by the kitchen window or the side gate, big enough for a table for two.
- Where the old slab was. A cracked slab broken up and replaced, often a little larger and shaped to the beds.
You can usually see the need from the back door:
- A path worn into the lawn from the back door to the side gate
- An old slab, cracked across and sinking at one corner
- Chairs carried onto the grass for every meal outside, then carried back
- Guests end up in the kitchen, because the yard has nowhere to sit
- Muddy shoes at the back door after every rain
Flagstone and pavers
Flagstone is natural stone in irregular pieces. Its uneven edges and warm colors sit well beside a Craftsman house or under trees, with decomposed granite or mortar in the joints. Pavers are concrete units in set shapes and colors, laid in a pattern. They suit a crisp, square patio, and a paver color can pick up the trim of the house.
Paver samples come with us to the yard visit. Hold them against the house in your own light, because a color that looks right in a brochure can read very differently next to your siding late in the day.
One crew lead runs your whole job.
Whoever walks the lot with you at the free visit runs the build and the final walkthrough, and you get their direct number that day. A question about the slope or the side gate goes to the person who measured it.

- Walkthrough. We go over the patio and the beds with you. What we build is covered for 1 year.
What a patio's price depends on
- How big the patio is, and its shape
- Flagstone or pavers, and the stone or paver you pick
- What's there now: lawn, an old slab or tree roots
- A step down from the door, or a low wall along one side
- How materials get from the street to the backyard
- Any beds, paths or turf you add around it
What the patio gets
- A patio placed where you will use it
- The beds and paths around it planned at the same time, if you want them
- Flagstone or pavers in a color picked from the samples at the visit
Questions about patios
Can you take out the old slab and put the patio in the same spot?
Yes. The cracked slab comes out first, and the new patio goes down in its place. You can keep the old outline or change it, and taking out the slab is priced on your quote with the patio.
Can you do the patio and the front lawn at the same time?
Yes. Tell us at the visit, and your quote prices the patio and the lawn work separately. You see the total, and you decide what goes ahead.
The back door sits above the yard. Is that a problem?
No. We add a step or a landing, so you walk straight out onto the patio. It's priced on your quote with the patio.
