What we do in each part of the yard.

Five parts of a typical LA lot. Pick one to see the work we take on there.

Parkway

The parkway is the strip between the sidewalk and the curb, and dry grass there is hard to keep alive.

  • Low planting or decomposed granite in place of the grass
  • Stepping pads so people can get out of a parked car
  • Drip that waters the plants and keeps the sidewalk dry

Front yard

Many LA front yards have a lawn that browns every summer and a front walk that has cracked or lifted.

  • The old lawn taken up and replaced
  • A new front walk in pavers or flagstone
  • Low garden walls and raised beds along the drive
  • Drip to every new plant

Side yard

A side yard is often bare dirt in shade, and a proper path makes it the easy way round to the back.

  • A path in pavers or gravel
  • A drain for downspouts that leave puddles
  • Shade plants where there is room for a bed

Backyard

The backyard is where the family spends its time, so it needs somewhere to sit and room for kids or a dog.

  • A patio off the back door
  • Artificial turf where the grass has worn thin
  • Planting along the fences and walls
  • A path out to the side gate

Slope

A bare slope sends soil onto the path every time it rains, and a wall and planting hold the bank in place.

  • Retaining walls and terraces
  • Steps and a path up the slope
  • Deep-rooted planting on drip to hold the soil

Tell us which part needs work. We'll look at the rest while we're there.

The jobs we design and build.

We plan these together across the whole lot, so each part suits the one beside it. Drip or sprinkler changes come with any build that needs them.

What goes where the lawn was.

We price both on one quote and tell you which we'd put in each spot.

Artificial turf

Uses no water once it's down. Turf heats up on summer afternoons, so we'll tell you which spots catch that sun.

Planting

Needs drip while the roots take, then much less water. Many natives flower in spring and rest through late summer.

What happens after you call us.

  1. You get in touch

Book online or call, and we'll fix a time for the visit that suits you.

  2. The free yard visit

We come within 3 business days. You walk the lot with us while we measure the parts you want done.

  3. Your quote

By email within 1 business day of the visit, with the front yard, backyard and side yard priced separately.

  4. Your start date

We confirm the start date in writing.

  5. The build

Work starts on the date we confirmed and runs until everything on your quote is done.

  6. Walkthrough, and after

We go over every part with you and complete the turf maker's warranty registration together. What we build is covered for 1 year and what we plant for 12 weeks, with a check visit in that time.

Sloping backyard of a brown-shingle Craftsman house on a hillside lot, held by two low terraces of dry-laid tan fieldstone with stone steps between them, planted with California lilac, manzanita, deer grass, silver-leaved sage and rosemary in bark mulch below a wood fence

One crew lead runs your whole job.

Whoever walks the lot with you at the free visit runs the build and the final walkthrough, and you get their direct number that day. A question about the slope or the side gate goes to the person who measured it.

What people ask before the first visit.

Can you do the front and the back in one go?
Yes. You get one quote with a price for each part, so you see what it all costs and decide what goes ahead.
Do you bring samples?
Yes. Paver and turf samples come to the yard visit, so you see them against your house in your own light.
Is there anything to get ready for the visit?
No. If you have phone photos of the yard in another season, or of a spot that puddles after rain, have them handy. A visit only shows us one day.
Why can't you price it over the phone?
The price comes from the parts you want done and what's in them now, and we measure both at the visit. Your written quote reaches you by email within 1 business day.
What if a plant dies?
Plants we put in are covered for 12 weeks. If one fails in that time, call us and we'll come out and replace it.
